Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is closing in on a move to a new club following the expiry of his contract with League One side Cardiff City.
The 34-year-old rejoined his boyhood club in 2023 and took on the role as interim manager for the final three games of the season. He, however, couldn’t lead the club to Championship survival, with the Bluebirds finishing bottom of the table.
Now available on a free transfer, Ramsey is reportedly on his way to join Mexican side Pumas UNAM. The Athleticreport that he has already completed his medical and is set to sign a one-year deal with the option to extend.

Ramsey spent 11 years at the Emirates Stadium; he played a total of 369 games, scoring 64 goals and providing a further 60 assists. His time at Arsenal saw him win the FA Cup three times before completing a move to Juventus in January 2019.
A move to Pumas comes after Ramsey reportedly turned down offers from clubs in both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The Welshman will have the chance to quickly make an impact with his new club.
Puma’s season officially starts on July 13 against Santos Laguna. Ramsey missed the majority of last season after undergoing hamstring surgery.
He confirmed his departure from Cardiff in a post on Instagram over the weekend. “I leave Cardiff city with a lot of different emotions,” he wrote.
“Although it has been personally challenging at times I made sure to give my all on and off the pitch for this wonderful club that is so close to my heart. For now I am on a new adventure but I will be keeping a close eye on the club as always and it will forever have my support.
“Good luck to the staff and all the players for the upcoming season and a big thank you to the amazing fans! Until next time, Aaron.”
