Dunelm £7 item is the 'cheapest way' to keep draughts out of your home

Brits everywhere will grapple with rising energy bills this winter, as Ofgem's energy price cap increased by around 10% from yesterday (October 1). That means an average household using electricity and gas may see their bill rocket to an eye-watering £1,717 per year, particularly if they're paying by Direct Debit.

While this figure is undoubtedly unnerving, there are a few things you can do to help mitigate against its impact. Surprisingly, this may include purchasing a surprising Dunelm item currently retailing at just £7.

The affordable product is none other than a draught excluder. Although the furnishing retailer has a wide variety to choose from, their 'Embroidered Bee' excluder is among the most affordable and has even racked up a public approval rating of 4.5 stars.

Draught-proofing your home is among the 'cheapest and most effective ways' to save energy in your home, according to the Energy Saving Trust. In fact, it estimates that draught-proofing windows and doors could save Brits a staggering £40 each year.

Dunelm sellers add: "Pretty and plump, this stunning cushion has an embroidered bee print that will add a pop of colour to any room of the house. Filled with durable polyester hollowfibre, this statement piece has matching cushions available."

However, if you're not so keen on draught excluders there are various other solutions to keep warmth in your home without turning to heating. The retailer is also selling a £17 electric blanket that's especially perfect for anyone whose unable to bag a free one from Octopus and OVO Energy this winter.

The 'soft to touch' blanket boasts a 35W output and a three-heat setting remote. Therefore, users have the option to select whatever temperature works best for a good night's sleep.

Meanwhile, B&Q suggests its 'Diall Radiator reflector' foil can slash home heat loss by 'up to 50%', which may allow you to knock back your energy use in the long-run. Priced at just £14.97, the aluminium, reflective sheet may be cut in size to fit on and behind your radiator.

It's designed to reflect warmth back towards the centre of a room, while avoiding heat loss through poorly insulated walls. Screwfix also has a 195mm x 500mm roll of insulating foil available for just £9.99, while The Range has a variation available for £23.99.
